Those first few months of learning to ‘solo-parent’ was a messy, challenging blur. I learned so much about myself as a mom and what I would need to make it work. I made it through his first leaps, cluster feeds and doctors appointments on my own. I think it’s actually made me a stronger mother, but I also think having to take on all the responsibilities so soon also increased my postpartum anxiety. But not only did I freaking survive those challenging days (often alone), but my husband and I learned how to co-parent as a result.
Read MoreIt’s funny that motherhood is the only job that anyone can do without experience. Somehow, we all just figure it out. I survived that phase (you will, too!), but it’s easy to feel overwhelmed in the process. Especially when you don’t have others to learn from and lean on. It doesn’t matter where you find help, as long as you have it. The point is you have to find your people that will be there for you. Read on for more tips...
Read MoreI’ve had this postcard from Paris from my best friend on my vision board for 4 years now. I recently filmed a TV segment with KCTV5 in November 2019 showing how I DIY’d this board and mentioned keeping it on for 2020 without any idea it would happen. You guys, I’m going to Paris! I thought it would be fun to share how I created my DIY Vision Board and WHY I believe in having one!
Read MoreI am not an excessive shopper. I am pretty minimal and don’t like to have a lot of “things.” But I do enjoy refreshing my wardobe and home seasonally. And I LOVE shopping for Ford. It’s actually way more fun shopping and styling a boy than I expected, which is also dangerous. Point is, when I buy something…I use it A LOT. I would rather have a few nice things that get lots of use than one-off products and clothing. Here are my top finds from 2019!
Read MoreSomething about taking down the holiday decor made me want to get serious about making some updates to our home. We moved in over 6-months ago and it’s been a blur. Now that we are settled, I am ready to make our home a priority in 2020. There are still bare walls and little fixes I want to make, but I am starting by adding a few pieces of neutral decor, updating pillows & throws and finding some key pieces that can elevate our spaces. Here are a few of my recent finds I have my eye on…
Read MoreI don’t think goals have to be really exciting or big every year. Sometimes, it’s doing something small consistently that can actually improve your life for the better! In 2019, I challenged myself to make my coffee at home instead of going out and spending $5 on a daily latte. It may seem small and silly, but it changed my life in so many ways! Not only did I learn how to make a pretty good coffee at home, I saved money and calories. These are my goals for 2020…
Read MoreAfter four years of walking through this process of reflection and planning, I thought I would share the 10 questions I ask myself as I map out the year. If you are ready to push yourself to go after your dreams and turn them into a reality, you have to commit to them. The first step in committing is declaring your dreams and then creating a plan of action to achieve them!
Read MoreI started 2019 with a 5-month-old baby and not a lot of help or direction. I started the year ready for change. Ready to break free from my role as a stay-at-home-working-mom. Ready to find myself again after the blur of early motherhood. I did not set lofty goals or big resolutions for 2019 because in many ways, it was a year of newness. A year of figuring it out and seeing what sticks. A year of fresh beginnings. I thought I would share a bit of my year…
Read MoreIt’s easy to get caught up in the game of curating the perfect holiday instead of focusing on creating memories. You can easily watch others share their perfect holiday traditions, decor, outfits and gifts on social media...and ask yourself if you are doing enough. Let’s not forget how easy it is to click ‘Buy Now’ for instant gratification to fit in.But the number of gifts under the tree or activities you check off your to-do list is not what will create magic.
Read MoreTo be honest, I can’t remember most of the gifts I received. Maybe it’s bad memory but it’s true that these little moments that became traditions are what feel the most special to me. While Ford is still too young for many of these traditions, I’m excited to carry these on as a family while also adding in a few of our own.
Read MoreI am SO excited to be the new guest writer for Children’s Mercy Parent-Ish blog! This is a great resource of KC parents (and beyond) on all things parenting…“Sometimes you need answers to the little everyday things that parents encounter. And sometimes, you just need someone to encourage you through all of the craziness and challenges of parenthood. Welcome to Parent-ish.”
Read MoreIf you are hosting for the holidays, don’t stress! Take a deep breath and remember that it can actually be a fun thing. I’m excited to be hosting Thanksgiving for the first time and have been actually looking forward to it! There’s so many pro’s to hosting… it’s your house (and your rules). Plus, it makes nap time (and keeping schedules on track) for the kids much easier. Oh, and getting to sleep in your own bed - not on someone’s couch or futon! I will always prefer hosting over going somewhere when given the opportunity. But I do know hosting can be stressful. So, I thought I would share a few tips to get your house looking its best for your guests! And a few ideas to make it a simple + fun experience as you play hostess this holiday.
Read MoreIf you are like me and enjoy arts & crafts, but don’t always know what to do or don’t want to necessary buy all the things…I have a few ideas on how to get creative at home! I would consider myself creative, but I am not the type of mom that has lots of craft-y things in our home. I guess you would call me a Target mom vs. Pinterset mom. I am also pretty minimalist and don’t have lots of things - unless they are being put to good use! But I’ve been recently really wanting to do more hands-on activities with Ford. He’s at such a fun age where he is curious about everything and really wants to learn new skills. It’s so fun!
Read MoreIf you follow me on Instagram, (@thekathrynelise), I recently did a poll to see what your favorite Amazon finds under $25 are. You guys sent in SO many great ideas and I also wanted to include some of the items I also have recently bought and love. When to comes to Amazon shopping, we buy a lot of our daily household items, things for Ford and random finds. I do love the convenience of Amazon and the ability to find basically everything we need and getting it super quickly! I thought I would compile a few favorites under $25. Thanks to everyone for your input!
Read MoreI didn’t truly see the value in planning family photos until we had Ford. Now, time seems to go so fast and he’s constantly growing and changing which makes me want to capture every stage. I knew without a doubt that we would do family photos this fall to capture this time and to include for holiday cards! Truthfully, I didn’t send out holiday cards last year but am making it a priority this year. I thought I would share my planning tips and some advice to make your session go smoothly. Of course, I highly suggest working with a photographer that you can trust to execute your vision. I ended up going with a new photographer in KC this year and was blown away by the results! Thanks, Kelsey!
