2020 Goals

Every year, I write down a list of goals and dreams. I thought it would be fun to share what’s on my radar, if anything, to hold me accountable. I didn’t have many goals in 2019 and kind of let the year guide me and it honestly was one of my best years, yet! I learned new things, challenged myself in new ways and tackled some hard goals that have been lingering on my list for years.

I don’t think goals have to be really exciting or big every year. Sometimes, it’s doing something small consistently that can actually improve your life for the better! In 2019, I challenged myself to make my coffee at home instead of going out and spending $5 on a daily latte. It may seem small and silly, but it changed my life in so many ways! Not only did I learn how to make a pretty good coffee at home, I saved money and calories.

My goals for 2019 were pretty simple.

I wanted to learn how to cook at home, which I feel much more confident starting this year at. I wanted to travel somewhere new, again feel pretty good that I was able to go to New York City (while still pumping/breastfeeding) with my girlfriends, Florida on our first family beach trip and California with my husband. It wasn’t a big year for travel, but I went places with friends, my family and husband - I call that a win. And I wanted to get back into a routine…routine with work, fitness and family life. I think there will always be room for improvement here, but I feel really good about this as well.

For 2020, my goals are…

Expand my fitness routine -

I’ve been doing the same workout regimen since before getting pregnant and while I love it and 100% believe that rowing + heavy weight lifting is best for my body, it’s hard some weeks to be consistent in making it to the classes. I only have 1-2 class times that work for my schedule right now (unless I want to start getting up at 4am, which is a big fat NO). So, I am looking at expanding my fitness routine to add more variety into the mix. That could be trying something new 1-2 times a week, like hot yoga or pilates. It could be getting outside more for daily walks & runs. It’s also been on my mind to create a home gym in the unfinished area of our basement. We already have a treadmill, so would just need nice foam mats, a few sets of weights and a TV. I’ve heard the Peleton app is great ($12.99 a month). Point is, I want to be consistent in moving my body daily and the only way I can make this happen is if I have more options than the workout classes I am currently going to.

Go to Europe

I know, this is a big and expensive one. But I’ve never been abroad and this has been on my goal list for years now. We may or may not have already booked flights…stay tuned here!

Do something new & creative - just for fun!

Because I work for myself and my job is pretty creative and flexible, a lot of the work I do is to get paid. I’ve been craving a creative project for awhile now that is just for fun and not necessarily to make money. I really pushed myself to try new things in 2019 and want to do more of that. Whether it’s more writing, TV apperances, or other random projects. I am not sure, yet! But I love having something just for fun to keep me on my toes.

Be Present with my Family

I really made an effort here in 2019. In the summer, I did “phone-free with Ford” activities where we would do something fun together. In the winter (and when it’s cold out), I found us getting stuck into the same evening routine of: daycare pick-up, Ford watches 30-mins of TV or plays independetly while we cook dinner, eat dinner, play/read, start bedtime routine. I want to more more present and NOT have my phone around in the early mornings or evenings. I am so fortunate that Ford is in full-time care, so I can get everything done for work during thouse hours. So, the time we ARE together - I want to enjoy it. Also, Ford is really into arts & crafts right now, which is so fun. I might look into more easy/DIY projects for us to do in the evenings.

Read before Bed (no phone in the bedroom)

I don’t think I read a single book in 2019. I am now making a point to charge my phone at night in our kitchen, so it’s not in the bedroom. This frees my brain from notifications, allows my husband and I to bond and talk and for me to read. I am trying to read one chapter a night before bed. I actually think I’ve slept better since doing this!

Invest in our home

We bought a new home in 2019, which honestly was not in our plan - but it happened! And we love our new home! Now that we are pretty settled, I want to invest more monthly purchases into our home. My shopping budget seems to all go toward random Target and impulse purcahses lately and I don’t love that. I want to deisgn, decorate and make our home feel welcoming and cozy. I want to invest more int finding pieces we love and will use for years. Less cheap clothes, more for the home.

Be Smart with my finances & business

In order to continue to grow my business, I need to continue to be smart about how I spend my time, the people I work with and how I run my finances. I am putting better systems into place for 2020 and feel good about the direction I am headed, but am excited to continue to get better! It’s easy to ignore the “business” and just focus on the work, but I know that the more I know about all parts of the business, the better!
