A Day in the Life
I thought it would be fun to share a rundown of my typical day since I receive a lot of questions on how I balance running a business, blog and being a mom.
My schedule is constantly changing, but I like to try and be consistent with how I focus my time and energy each day. This helps me to maximize the limited time I have to work/blog and be a mom.
Here is how I breakdown which tasks I will focus on each day:
MONDAY: email follow-up + social media planning and scheduling (home with Ford)
TUESDAY: meetings + calls (discussing projects and client campaigns off-site)
WEDNESDAY: writing + projects (focusing on behind-the-scenes work: pitching, writing, outlines, etc.)
THURSDAY: photo shoots + meetings (creating content or attending new client meetings)
FRIDAY: wrap-up projects + business work
Here is how I breakdown which tasks I will focus on each day:
6:30 a.m. I typically wake up sometime before 7am (if Ford slept through the night)
7:00 a.m. I get Ford up (unless he sleeps in) and get him changed & ready for the day
7:15 a.m. I pump, feed the dog and get breakfast started for Ford and myself. This is also when I will tidy up the house really quick or throw in a quick load of laundry (any easy house chores)
8:00 a.m. My husband usually leaves for work and I entertain Ford while getting ready for the day
8:30 a.m. I will nurse Ford once more time before leaving or getting him ready for daycare/nanny
9:00 a.m. The nanny comes over (or I will drop off Ford to daycare) and get to work
9:15 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Dedicated work time for my business based on my schedule above! I will meet with clients each 1x per month, often have weekly TV segments and bi-monthly content shoots. I have to pack a lot into these precious hours, so I am often NOT on social media during working hours.
Note: Ford is starting daycare 2x a week (keeping our nanny for 2x a week), so I will now have more time (9am - 4pm to work and get things done).
1:30pm - 2:30 p.m. Back to mom life. I will check social media and email occasionally in the afternoon while Ford does independent play or our afternoon nursing sessions. Other than that, I am focused on tending to him.
3:00 p.m. Ford will typically take an afternoon nap and I will get back to work to answer a few emails or finalize a project I have in the works.
5:00 p.m. I get Ford’s dinner ready and let him snack, while I prepare our dinner and/or tidy up the kitchen. I like to do grocery shopping on Sunday or Monday and prep as much in advance, so I am making easy dinners that only take 15-minutes or so of prep time. I also love slow cooker meals!
5:30 p.m. Ford plays and my husband usually gets back from work. We will have some family time and I will let him take charge with Ford for a bit after a long day! We make sure not to have the TV on or anything overstimulating happen before bedtime and will focus on spending quality time together.
6:30 p.m. - 6:45 p.m. We start our bed time routine (depending on how tired Ford is) and get the bath running. My husband does the bath time routine, while I get his pajamas and bedroom ready (dim the lights, pick out a book, etc.) After bath, we read a book and then nurse or bottle feed one last time before bed.
7:00 - 7:30 p.m. Ford is usually down and asleep. We try to put him down drowsy, but not 100% asleep.
7:45 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. If we didn’t eat dinner already, we will eat together. We both (unfortunately) typically still have work to do, so will wrap up projects and work for an hour or so before spending time together. If I don’t have any major deadlines or things to prepare for work, I will do my blogging and check RewardStyle, etc. I also will schedule any emails to brands or check on social media. I do most of my live social media posts in the evening because I have the highest engagement and can actually follow-up on comments/questions.
8:30 - 9:30 p.m. We will watch a show together and just chill/relax. We love finding shows on Netflix and watching an episode or two each night to wind down. I also will start getting ready for bed around this time (shower, skincare routine, etc.)
10:00 p.m. I try to be in bed by now. Some nights, I can’t shut my brain off…some nights I am so tired I go to sleep earlier. It really just depends! I don’t like to stay up late because I never know if Ford will wake up in the night or wake up early to start the day.
It’s not the most exciting routine, but it works for us and it’s how I am able to balance all the things on my plate. Some days are better than others and I have learned to give myself grace. I do believe that batch working and time blocking has helped me to stay focused and productive! I like to do all similar tasks in one day vs. trying to do a million different things.
